A New Version of the Nagatani Model For Traffic on a Two-lane Roadway

Using a numerical simulation, we study a new version of a two-lane traffic model. This version, which is an extension of the Nagatani model, takes into account more realistic conditions in order to examine some interesting aspects of a two-lane roadway. The densities of cars in the two-lanes, the mean velocity and the phase diagrams are calculated by computer simulations. We find that in this version the traffic flow is always greater than that of the Nagatani model. Moreover, when the first lane is saturated, the residual mean-velocity is found to be different from zero. We find also that no phase transition occurs in the case where the fraction of cars in the second lane is zero.
